Marian Tadeusz Rapacki Sports Museum
Object's description
Aleja Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego 44
The Sports Museum contains authentic olympic sports equipment, uniforms, medals, flags, many touching memories, and more. In the Sports Museum one can find all the most important moments of the post-war sporting history of Olsztyn and Warmia and Mazury.
The institution was established in 1988 by sports enthusiasts and social activists from Olsztyn. A special role was played by Marian Rapacki, an outstanding coach, sports educator and an organizer of many competitive disciplines in the Warmia and Mazury region. After the death of this well-known activist in 2009, the museum adopted his name.
The first headquarters was located in a community centre at the stadium of Olsztyn’s Sports Club. In 2004 the museum moved to the Sports Hall “Urania”, where it functions unto this day. Apart from the permanent exhibition, there are time displays which are changed every three months. In addition to this, the museum organises vernissages, meetings with athletes and classes for teenagers.
